The Prince Edward Island Home Economics Association was founded 3 November 1942. By 1945 interest had waned and the Association had become inactive. It was re-organized in 1948 and affiliated with the Canadian Home Economics Association in 1954/55. The Association is active in the promotion of home economics on Prince Edward Island, organizing conferences and workshops on this subject as well as holding special events. It also instituted an academic award and scholarship program. The Association has presented briefs to several commissions and government agencies identifying areas of concern.

The PEI Provincial Nutrition Committee was sponsored by the federal Department of Pensions and Public Health. It met throughout 1942-1943.
