Custodial history

Scope and content

The collection consists of correspondence (1848-1918) and land transactions (1827-1916) of the Riley family from the Baltic in Lot 18. James (1810-1806), George (1825-1899), Neil (1830-1899), and John Riley (1837-1921), all of whom were farmers, were the sons of William Riley (1790-1872) and Ann Beaton (1791-1838). The correspondence consists of descriptions of land in Lot 18 (1841), an account statement of James Riley with James McKay (1848) and letters relating to John Riley's claim of exemption from military service (1917-1918). The land transactions include mortgages, conveyances, and leases of land contracted by the Riley brothers.
