Scope and content

This fonds consists of the volumes entitled "Arthur Owen, Master Builder, and Elizabeth Lee; Their Children and Grandchildren, A Partial Genealogy of an Island Family," which was printed by Arthur C. Owen, August 1990, for the Owen Family Bicentennial Reunion. It contains genealogical information about 266 descendants of Arthur Owen and Elizabeth Lee born between 1788 and 1881.

Arthur Owen was born in England 1756. He emigrated to Prince Edward Island sometime around 1780 and worked in several different shipyards. He married Elizabeth Lee in England in June of 1787 and returned to PEI in 1788. Upon his return, he worked as a Master Builder and agent for Hill Thomas and Company in the Alberton area. Sometime after 1795, Owen settled in Princetown/Richmond Bay area and opened his own shipyard. In 1805, he was appointed Surveyor of Shipping for the General Registrar and Record Office, a position he held until his death in 1833. He and Elizabeth had eight children.
