Biographical history

Betty Jean Beer is a descendant of George Beer, son of George Beer and Elizabeth (Ley) of Devon, England emigrated to Prince Edward Island with his wife Sarah (Dyer) and 10 children in 1832. They settled in Charlottetown, their children and grandchildren becoming prominent citizens and playing an active role in the business and political life of their community and the Island. Much social interaction developed through the years, strenghthened by several marriages, with other notable Charlottetown families such as Leigh, Bremner, Jones and Full.

Custodial history

The photographs in this collection were copied over several years from various sources by Betty Jean Beer in her genealogical research into the Beer family.

Scope and content

The collection consists of 87 photographs and negatives (including one full-plate ambrotype) of the Beer family, descendants of George and Elizabeth Ley of Devon, England. These are supplemented by a family tree done principally through George and Elizabeth's eldest son, George, Member of the Legislative Council, and his son George Robert.
