Biographical history

Emily Frances Bowman was the youngest daughter of Captain William Swabey and Marian Hobson, immigrants from England. She was born in Charlottetown on the 4 March 1842. Emily and her family returned to England in 1861.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of a photocopy and transcript of a letter written by Emily Frances Bowman of Dorking, England to her nephew Harold Swabey. The majority of the letter contains genealogical information about the Swabey family, including detailed information on Colonel William Swabey. The letter also contains information about houses in the Charlottetown area throughout the latter half of the 1800s, as well as brief mention of the Stratford steamer, Nine Mile House, and the Mi'Kmaq settlement at Rosebank.
