Biographical history

John Howard Macdonald, son of Archibald J. Macdonald (1934-1917) and Marion Murphy (1847-1921), was born 13 July 1880 in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island. J. Howard worked for a time in Winnipeg before returning to P.E.I. where he was involved in the family business in Georgetown until at least 1924. He also appears to have sold life insurance for a time. J. Howard was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. J. Howard served in the Legislative Assembly as a representative for fifth Kings County from 1923 to 1927 and then again 1931 to 1935. He married Mary Jeanette King on 15 November 1933 in Georgetown. J. Howard died 18 February 1965 in Georgetown.

Scope and content

The subseries consists of personal and business papers of J. Howard Macdonald for the period ca. 1905 to ca. 1939. The subseries includes correspondence to and from family and friends regarding personal, family, and business matters. There is also some material related to the Knights of Columbus (Charlottetown and Winnipeg branches) and a few items relating to his work with Metropolitan Life Insurance. Material is arranged in chronological order.
