Biographical history

Michael William Kilbride was born in 1827 in Prince Edward Island to John Kilbride Sr. and Mary Mahoney, both of Ireland. On 1 July 1875 Michael married Elizabeth McAlduff. The couple raised an adopted son, Frederick Hampton, on sixty acres of land in Lot 11. Michael was a farmer, trader, speculator, merchant and ship-owner. He operated a shipyard along the Canadian River in Lot 11 where he built at least three ships, including the brigantine

Scope and content

The fonds consists of four daybooks from Michael Kilbride's general store in Lot 11. Each book gives an itemized account of daily purchases by the residents of the community for the following dates:

Vol. 1: 3 April 1855 - 24 April 1856
Vol. 2: 7 August 1862 - 25 July 1864
Vol. 3: 20 September 1867 - 5 August 1868
Vol. 4: 5 August 1868 - 3 February 1869
