Administrative history
The Central Christian Church is located on Kent Street in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. This brick church was designed by architect William Harris. Built by the Lowe Brothers contractors, the church was officially opened in September of 1900. It was enlarged in 1922-1923 by H & S Lowe contractors, with H. Arthur as architect and Charles Hamm as the main craftsman. Active within the congregation of the Central Christian Church throughout the years has been a Woman's Missionary Society, Ladies Aid, and the Young Peoples Society of Christian Endeavor.
Custodial history
Scope and content
The majority of the fonds consists of records relating to the Charlottetown Central Christian Church chapter of the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor. The minute books (1926-1928) record the weekly meetings and their activities such as the debates and topics for discussion that took place, methods of raising money for the support of the pastor, and visiting the sick members of the congregation. The record book for the Young People's Conference of the Church of Christ for PEI, contains records of the annual meetings (1931-1963), which took place at New Glasgow, Charlottetown, Murray Harbor, Montague and Summerside. These meetings consisted of the members of the Young People's Society gathering for a series of religious lectures. Also included in the fonds is a church register which contains an alphabetical listing of church members, changes within the parish relating to those who died and whose names where changed by marriage (1897-1954), and minutes of business meetings (1897-1946), which contain financial statements and church trustee reports.
