Scope and content

Land for the Clyde River Presbyterian Church was purchased in 1856. Shortly thereafter, the "Burnside Church" was built and was opened by Rev. James Allen of Covehead. Rev. George Sutherland may have been the first minister to preach there on a regular basis.

As a result of Church Union in 1925, the members of the Clyde River Presbyterian Church joined with the Cornwall Methodists to form Cornwall United. Two elders from the former Presbyterian church, Hugh MacMillan and Hector Murchison, and three other men, William Boyle, George Crewys, and Harry Hyde, made up the first session of the Cornwall United Church.

The series consists of vital statistics (registers of elders and communicants, baptisms, marriages, and deaths) and administrative records (minutes of session) for the pastoral charge of the Free Church/Presbyterian Church of West and Clyde River:

Subseries 1: Vital statistics [Reel 1]
Subseries 2: Administrative records [Reel 1]
