This series consists of original minutes and orders-in-council material and copies thereof on 53 reels of microfilm filmed by the Public Archives of Canada and the Public Archives and Records Office. Until 1971 the orders-in-council were recorded in the minutes, afterwards they were recorded separately; this arrangement has been maintained. There are four subseries of the original documents:
Subseries 1: Minute Books. 1770-1872, 1874-1921
Subseries 2: Indexes. 1851-1853, 1874-1921
Subseries 3: Certified Departmental Minutes,1928-1966
Subseries 4: Rough Minutes.1791-1797, 1867-1874
